Absolutely beautiful but they seem to always be in such desolate and isolated areas.

Well, many of those are churches, not castles. You can tell them by the pointy towers and the format (one main "nave" with smaller wings).
Cheers!

Whether they are Cathedrals or castles is irrelevant, the ancient architecture and grounds are magnificent and impressive.

Indeed, not all are castles. Linda, it does matter when these cathedrals have been described as castles.
That's like making a page called "famous apples" and showing a banana, with the rationale that "it's irrelevant, they're both tasty fruit".
Regarding, "they seem to always be in such desolate and isolated areas," didn't you think that there might be a reason for this? Which is easier to defend, and castle on a clifftop or at the bottom of a valley?

The 10th one down is Dunnottar Castle just south of Aberdeen in Scotland. I played football (soccer) on the grass just to the left of the wall.
This post needs a description of each with a title. Also this is a list of castles and cathedrals, not all castles. Huge difference!

the poms built these castles to keep the crap out of their country - today they let any old wanker with a passport in. The UK must get their priorities right again - get rid of the muslims and all the other shit that devours liberty and freedom!!!

Hi the 22nd one down next to the railway is conwy castle in conwy in north wales
the red cathedral is in liverpool isn't it and i don't think it's even a hundred years old yet
and the 11th one down is edinburgh castle i think
i think ely cathedral is also there
alot of these are georgian buildings built 500 years later than the castles, i mean there are a over a thousand castles in wales alone so there should be no excuse for not finding more
here is the castle which i can see from my bedroom window www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp?id=6&PlaceID=88
and here is a link for the distribution of castles in england and wales
