Mi:

Very impressive.

Tom:

Half of the pictures here are not of castles, there are cathedrals, one monastery and one brickworks

Joel:

nice, but not actually all castles.

Vic:

Great pics! Would be superb if someone good in British history could name each of the Castles.

blah:

don't steal images from other sites just to get some adsense earnings!! it's against Adsense TOS!!

Absolutely beautiful but they seem to always be in such desolate and isolated areas.

David:

Well, many of those are churches, not castles. You can tell them by the pointy towers and the format (one main "nave" with smaller wings).

Cheers!

noodle:

where is edinburgh castle???

Linda Buttacavoli:

Whether they are Cathedrals or castles is irrelevant, the ancient architecture and grounds are magnificent and impressive.

sgf1:

Edinburgh castle is in Edinburgh isn't it?

williamw:

noodle, Edinburgh castle is in Edinburgh.
It's easy to find:)

Indeed, not all are castles. Linda, it does matter when these cathedrals have been described as castles.

That's like making a page called "famous apples" and showing a banana, with the rationale that "it's irrelevant, they're both tasty fruit".

Regarding, "they seem to always be in such desolate and isolated areas," didn't you think that there might be a reason for this? Which is easier to defend, and castle on a clifftop or at the bottom of a valley?

John Clifford:

These aren't ancient they aren't all castles and many of the buildings are French

The 8th one down is Norwich Castle. Which is in the middle of the city centre.

gene:

Some of these castles are amazing, so much history. I wish I had a time machine.

nermina:

very, very impresiv

N:

half aren't even castles! one is a brick works!

Mr Kline:

The '4th down' is Dover, and the elaborate 5th is Caerphilly Castle in Glamorgan.

The 10th one down is Dunnottar Castle just south of Aberdeen in Scotland. I played football (soccer) on the grass just to the left of the wall.

This post needs a description of each with a title. Also this is a list of castles and cathedrals, not all castles. Huge difference!

Atomic Scrotum:

Who cares whether they are all castles or not. Great pics!

this is one of those pages that you want to bookmark and visit again, nice collection.

You may like to rename as British monuments.
Thanks for collection of these pictures at one place.

Awesome collection!

claire from england:

Uhm, some of those are cathedrals, but yeah our buildings kick ass

Matt:

Those castle shots are amazing!

jawellnofine:

the poms built these castles to keep the crap out of their country - today they let any old wanker with a passport in. The UK must get their priorities right again - get rid of the muslims and all the other shit that devours liberty and freedom!!!

barb:

beautiful pics. anyway to get the location and names? really amazing.

Very nice and scary.
:)

Bailey:

Hi the 22nd one down next to the railway is conwy castle in conwy in north wales

the red cathedral is in liverpool isn't it and i don't think it's even a hundred years old yet

and the 11th one down is edinburgh castle i think

i think ely cathedral is also there

alot of these are georgian buildings built 500 years later than the castles, i mean there are a over a thousand castles in wales alone so there should be no excuse for not finding more

here is the castle which i can see from my bedroom window www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp?id=6&PlaceID=88

and here is a link for the distribution of castles in england and wales
