The road bridge passes through a valley of the river Tarn near to the city of Mijo in southern France. It is the highest transport bridge in the world, one of its support has height of 341 meter — a little above, than Tour d’Eiffel, and all on 40 meters below, than Empire State Building. The bridge has been solemnly opened on December, 14th, 2004 and opened for movement on December, 16th, 2004.

City’s name is “Millau”
Absolutely amazing… but, why not just build a regular highway/road? I didn’t see that many obstacles to overcome.
Extraordinary, amazing, fantastic. This kind of gifts to humanity from brilliant minds make us realize how blessed we all are with the power to create and build rather than destroy by making wars!
This is costing a fortune, which we could use for other far more important causes like saving the environment and preventing global warming… Man will never learn that even if He aims higher and higher for the sky, He can never be as great as the Creator!!!
Sam, don’t you see those clouds under the bridge, that’s maybe why they didn’t made a regular highway
, amazing, hoy long is the bridge?
“Saving the environment” and stopping global warming cannot and will not be accomplished with whatever amount of money this bridge took to build. Actually, one could say that the fuel saved from not having to drive down in the valley benefits the environment. And it’s not about humans trying to reach the gods. From what I understand, it’s just people wanting to get to the beach faster. I feel bad for the people in the village below who no longer benefit from tourist dollars.
I believe the people of “the village down below” had been petitioning for some type of bypass for many years: they were almost the only town without one on the otherwise all-motorway route to the western part of the mediterranean coast. They were suffering from being a bottle-neck on that route: it could take an hour to travel the couple of miles of twisting hair-pin road down into the valley and back up the other side: and all the pollution of cars on idle in those queues.
OK everyone… for those interested… here’s the Google Maps link. As of now (3-12-2007 8:06pm EST) the satellite image is old and doesn’t show the bridge complete. But it’s still interesting.

Great photos of an engineering masterpiece. I’ve had the pleasure of travelling across the Pont Du Millau twice now, and it is gorgeous. You definitely need it too! The drive to the South of France was torturous without it!
Marvellous…
omg thus is the biggest bridge i have seen in my life although i hate bridges n each time i past 1 i cry n put my head down but yeah thus iz huge
what is this bridge called?
Here is the World’s largest Bridge.
excellent.please add the bridges of pakistan.
its really excellent.
Truly a marvel of engineering & art in architecture. Who built it?? It is one of the great landmarks of the world.
Firstly, many people mispronounce the city’s name as “Mi-yo” because they think every two ‘L’s are pronounced that way like in “Va-ni-ye” (Vanille). Millau is pronounced as “Meeh-low”.
Secondly, this is not the largest bridge in the world. There are many more bridges that are either taller or longer than this one.
Thirdly: The time and fuel it saves to cross the bridge instead of having to descend down into the valley and up again, justifies this bridge completely. The bridge is crossed by a typical car in about 3 minutes. Going down the valley, through Millau and up the mountain again takes roughly 75 to 90 minutes.
Attia: if you had taken the time to just watch the photos, you would have seen the name of this bridge: ‘Viaduc de Millau’ (not ‘Pont de Millau’, Polstar).
And Tim: this bridge is not just to let people get to the beach faster. The A75 is a very important road to connect the north to the south and it saves a lot of money and the environment every day. This was a good thing.
I’ve drove up and down it a few times and went down to the valley to make some awesome photos. It’s huge and breathtaking!
Greetings!
You’re all imbeciles, you sad people that comment saying why don’t they just do this.
You don’t know crap, to be honest.
In building this bridge they actually reduced emissions, because it shaved hours and hours of driving time through the town of Millau, which is incorrectly stated as Mijo in the article.
And in response to Sam’s comment: didn’t see any obsticles? You can’t see a valley, river and a town suffering from cramped streets? Check your eyesight. This bridge is a modern marvel, brilliantly designed and built. Congratulations to all those who built her.
And by the way, God and all of religion, it’s all a farce. There is no one creator. We are all creators. We with our sperm and with our eggs are the creators. Every living thing is a creator. Think about it, if there wasn’t religion half of the ward that happend wouldn’t have eventuated.
That’s my two cents.
